We are working!
Teachers are at the heart of Door Step School’s (DSS) work and the strongest force behind its sustained impact. DSS has therefore built a robust teacher development and quality assurance system, led by designated field trainers and lead trainers who focus on continuous training, mentoring, and professional growth.
Our teachers are trained to understand child development and how children learn, with a strong focus on classroom processes, curriculum and content delivery, and meaningful teacher–student interactions. With the support of programme coordinators, core education concepts are reinforced through regular classroom observations, feedback, and on-ground mentoring. Alongside pedagogy, teachers also receive inputs on planning, classroom management, communication, and basic management skills, enabling them to work effectively in complex community and school environments.
Training at DSS includes a combination of on-field and off-field modules, allowing educators to immediately apply learning in classrooms while also engaging in structured reflection and skill-building sessions. This continuous cycle of training, practice, and feedback ensures consistency and quality across all programmes.
In addition to strengthening its own teams, DSS actively contributes to system-level capacity building through partnerships with government bodies. In collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra, DSS has trained over 4,000 teachers from municipal and government schools in areas such as Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN), play-based learning methods, classroom management, and the effective use of Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs). DSS is widely recognised in the education sector for its innovative, low-cost, and contextually relevant pedagogy, particularly suited to classrooms serving children from vulnerable backgrounds.
Through sustained investment in teacher growth both within the organisation and across the public education systemDoor Step School strengthens teaching quality, aligns classroom practices, and ensures that children receive meaningful, engaging, and effective learning experiences.
