Your Contribution Brings Education to a Child’s Doorstep

Creating a world where every child gets quality education

Foundational Literacy And Numeracy

We work to improve Foundational Literacy and Numeracy of children between the ages of 3 to 18 years via Preschools and a dedicated FLN Program for Class 1 to 4. To improve FLN we work at the community level as well as at Schools via School Partnership Program.

Door Step School works directly within communities because the neighbourhood is a child’s first learning environment. Our programmes are built around time, place and pace ensuring learning happens when, where, and how it suits the child’s realities.

Balwadi Programme (Preschool Preparation | Ages 3–6)

Young children in informal settlements are at high risk of entering labour early or missing schooling entirely. The Balwadi Programme prepares them for formal education through activities that build physical, cognitive and socio-emotional development.

  • Children are identified through home visits and community surveys.
  • Families are counselled on the importance of early education.
  • Children are motivated and supported to enrol in school at the right age.

Study Classes in the Community (Academic Support Ages 6–14)

First-generation learners often struggle with academic expectations, leading to frustration and drop-out. Study Classes provide structured support before or after school using specially developed toolkits.

  • Supports homework, concept reinforcement and confidence-building.
  • Includes the English Study Class Programme, now operating across three communities with spoken-English labs and activity-based learning.
  • Community Learning Centres (CLCs)CLCs provide children with a safe, quiet space to read, learn and access educational materials.
  • Stocked with books, audio-visual resources and self-learning materials.
  • Supported by youth volunteers and DSS alumni.

Complemented by Mobile Libraries that deliver age-appropriate books to neighbourhoods regularly.

Builds confidence, listening skills and familiarity with classroom structure.
DSS deputes it’s teacher at Schools who teacher children literacy and numeracy at Class 1 and 2 building a strong foundation for future success.

Remedial Classes

Children struggling academically are referred by teachers for additional support. The children who need remedial classes are given additional dedicated – need based learning by teacher. The teacher ensures the learning need is addressed for each child as we believe each child is unique. Once the child comes at par with others via learning assessments, the child moves on with it’s peers. The remedial program is unique in it’s ‘approach’ where we aspire to bring each child at

grade appropriate level. The program has :·

  • Focus on language and math skills
  • Uses pre- and post-tests to track progress.
  • Reduces learning burden through simple tools and activity-based teaching.
