The Sanitation Marathon 2016

the_sanitation_marathon_2016

Every year, thousands of pilgrims set out for Waari – a pilgrimage to Pandharpur. Waarkaris leave the comfort of their homes and embark upon a journey full of faith and devotion. As the Waari moves through city of Pune, the citizens host Waarkaris for rest and meals. The pilgrims stay at temples, halls, and schools across the city for couple of days, before resuming the Waari.

This year, the Waarkaris are expected to reach Pune on 29th of June. Several PMC schools will be hosting them on 29th and 30th of June. Door Step School, Pune is joining this unique event and taking the opportunity to spread awareness about sanitation and cleanliness. We will be working at 11 PMC schools this year, covering most of the day time, from 6 am till 12 midnight, to help the Waarkaris in maintaining cleanliness and ensuring adequate sanitation facilities at selected schools. We need great support from citizen volunteers in this Sanitation Marathon – ‘Dindee Swachhatechi’ – on both the days. Major activities are – overseeing sanitation and cleanliness status at selected schools, coordinating with government offices for adequate sanitation facilities, and creating awareness among the Waarkaris through personal dialogue and public address.

This is an opportunity to participate in the most popular event of the year. Let us do our bit. Let us host our guests with adequate facilities. Let us ensure cleanliness at our schools. Let us join the Sanitation Marathon – Dindee Swachhatechi
